Today cell-phones have become an integral part of our life and are the most used mode of communication. More prevalent the use of cell-phone, more imperative is the need to curtail eco-pollution that emanates from the huge number of still-in-use and out-of-use cell phones. Toxic products like lead, mercury, cadmium and other materials pose a real threat to our ecosystem. Handset manufactures, recognizing the need of the hour, are showing great interest and emphasis on manufacturing not only environmentally-friendly handsets but also eco-friendly chargers.

IMMA - Mechanical and Metallurgical Industry of the Amazon - a joint venture formed by Alstom and Bardella, a leading Brazilian provider of equipment for the industries of metallurgy, energy, oil and gas, is being inaugurated today in Porto Velho, in the State of Rondônia (north of Brazil), in the presence of Brazilian authorities and Alstom and Bardella executives. The unit will be responsible for production of power equipment to Santo Antonio power plant, in Madeira river, Brazil. Investment in the plant is approximately €37 million and 400 jobs are created.

Alstom has been awarded a €125 million contract to equip the new Nant de Drance hydropower station, near Finhaut in the southwestern Canton Valais of Switzerland, with its first variable speed pump storage power plant. This partner project, between Swiss energy provider Alpiq, Forces Motrices Valaisannes (FMV) and Swiss federal railways SBB, demonstrates the first ever use of this type of technology in Switzerland. With a total power generation capacity of 628 MW the new plant will eventually supply an average power consumption equivalent to over 600 000 homes.

Algeria and France will sign a frame agreement to cooperate in the field of civil nuclear on the occasion that French Prime Minister Fransoois Fillon pays a visit to Algeria from 20th to 21st in next June. Accordingly, France will finance and transfer to Algeria both techniques and technology of the field.
