As in the statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first five months of 2008, the power sales have been recorded at 26.43 billion kWh, a 18.8% year-on-year increase. At the end of quarter I and also the beginning of quarter II, power supply situation is still pessimistic. With the power demand up to 240 million kWh/day, the national power demand has to restrict 1,500 – 2,000 MW of the generated capacity in peak hours (9.30 – 11.00).

As said by the Management Board of Ca Mau Gas Electricity Project (Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation - Lilama), at 11 a.m. on May 28th, engineers of Lilama along with specialists from Siemens, the contractor who supply equipment, successfully sparked the gas turbine No.1 in Ca Mau Power Company No.2 which had the capacity of 750 MW.

On behalf the general contractor that is in charge of constructing the whole water supply tunnel and penstock, surge tank with the total length of 10,147 m which is also called the critical path category vital for the progress rate to complete the project in the past 4 years, on this November 25, the Vietnam Import - Export and Construction Joint Stock Company (Vinaconex) has formally organized the Opening Ceremony for the water supply tunnel No.1 in K6+65 station of Buon Kuop Hydropower Project.
