Nam Con Son Gas Pipeline Company announced it would stop supplying gas for ten days from September 15 to allow for maintenance, meaning hydro-power plants will have to operate in full swing to supply enough electricity for the whole country.

Currently, the company’s gas pipelines transport a maximum 21 million cubic meters of gas a day, feeding thermo-power plants of Nhon Trach and Phu My Gas-Power-Fertilizer Center, which are responsible for around a third of the national power output.

In its announcement, the company said the ten-day supply interruption was meant to allow for periodic maintenance done every five years at Long Hai Valve Station, Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant, and Phu My Gas Distribution Station in Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

After its overhaul, the company will resume gas supply initially at some five million cubic meters a day before raising it to the maximum output of 21 million cubic meters a day.

The Nam Con Son Gas Pipeline Project is operated by a venture among three partners in which PetroVietnam Gas Corporation has a 51% interest while the remainder are the UK-based BP and ConocoPhillips.
