Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to instruct the Bac Kan provincial People’s Committee to design a project to provide electricity to villages that have no access to the national grid.
Investing in rural electricity creates a premise for economic development and contributes to agricultural and rural industrialisation and modernisation. The project, which will use capital sourced mainly from the central budget (85%) and a proportion from the local budget, will be considered and adopted in the second quarter of 2012. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Bac Kan is a poor northern province that still meets a lot of difficulties in socio-economic development. The power coverage in the province is now only 86%, while some 260 villages, with nearly 10,000 families, have no access to electricity.
